Now

I advise brands on emerging technology and innovation strategies. I do this by helping them to examine and re-imagine the business they are in. To do this I work across the whole lifecycle from research, ideas generation and prototyping through to development and deployment of innovative products, architecture and services.

My major area of interest is in Intelligent Agents. This is a field of Artificial Intelligence looking at how software can be given goals and flexible behaviours. This approach to smarter software is building the next generation of tools and experiences for consumers and brands.

During my career I have been instrumental in delivering a number of industry firsts across telecomms, media, social and wearable technology. See my LinkedIn profile for more detail on projects.

Most recently I have been working with a data science team exploring machine learning, big data, analytics and AI techniques to unlock answers to complex problems in areas like customer journeys, mobility, smart cities, wearables, health, automotive and retail.

The BBC, The Economist, Marketing Week, Bloomberg, Information Age, Financial Times and CNET are among the publishers who regularly seek my opinion and I often keynote at events worldwide.

Before

I studied at Napier University in Edinburgh focussing on computer science. The course was heavy in mathematics and A.I. This gave me a 20 year head-start on the approach needed by brands to tackle todays complex consumer landscape.

Over those twenty years I have developed propositions, led IT teams and undertaken research for some some of the worlds biggest brands.  I've worked in a number of roles from developer and business analyst to research analyst and solutions architecture. This has made me comfortable and effective in dealing with the C-suite, VP's, artists, producers and technologists.

Perrenial

For the past 15 years I have run a small world music label: writing, arranging, producing, and engineering for musicians across the globe. This has taught me invaluable lessons about art, people, teams, execution, and how technology supports the process.
